Mercure Ballarat - Hotel & Convention Centre

We had our wedding at The Mercure on 2/9/23 and it was amazing. Everything looked beautiful, everything was clean, the staff were all very lovely. They price for a Wedding there is among the cheapest we had found and it was a one stop shop. Ceremony, Reception, Photos and accommodation all on site. We had Nadia as our event coordinator and she was incredible. Gave us ideas we hadn't thought of but also total creative freedom for the space. She even went on the hunt the night before for my favourite wine. She is the perfect coordinator.

Did not stay at the hotel however went for lunch. I got a Parma $26 price is good! When it came out however I was underwhelmed that the size was that of palm and also the frozen love heart chicken from Cole’s instead of actual chicken breast. The chips were nice! Just had to savour the small portion I got. Similar experience with my salad, the two halves of my grape tomato were good however I had to savour each bite I had . The ladies who were serving us were friendly just lacked experience when asked about gravy and if dairy free was an option for an allergy. Overall disappointed wouldn’t go back.

Plus, good sized rooms, fantastic surrounds. Negatives. Noisy inefficient air-conditioner, had it on 30 degrees and room still cold. No microwave, lack of bench space, so all your gear is on the floor. Low pressure in shower, went cold during one shower. No toilet brush. Previous people's dirty linen piled at door on arrival. Had to kick it out of the way to enter room. Light over bathroom sink didn't work, had to use one of the bedside lamps so my wife could apply make-up. Shelf under mirror was close to falling off. Hair dryer had no provision to hang it anywhere, so just had to leave it dangling on floor. Well overpriced for what you get. Won't ever stay there again. Our other friends had similar issues in their rooms. They need to pick up their game. Until then go somewhere else.

Usually I would put the positives at the start but with this one I won't bother. Stayed here the 29th Dec for a night. Read reviews about the rooms being dated, and I'd say more rustic than dated. Except the shower, if your over 5'6" and weigh more than 65kg, you'll be hurting for space in the shower. My issues start with the cleanliness of the room. It wasn't just untidy, or a weeks worth of dust, it was filthy disgusting. Moldy showers, hair in the drains, rubbish in the room, months and months worth of dust, stained carpets, lower region body hair absolutely everywhere, toilet was disgusting, previous occupants bathroom items left behind, inside the kettle had never been cleaned, mugs were not washed. There's no excuse for this at all. When I told staff, the response I got was "ok I'll note it down for housekeeping". Yep that solved the problem? But the real kick in the teeth was when I checked my bank account the next day. Booked a room for $150 plus $28 breakfast. Only to find out they've over charged by nearly $100. And for the life of me I cannot figure out why. Tried contacting their support and have yet to receive a response. So not only did they supply me with a sub par room, they've robbed me as well. I didn't have to stay with you, I CHOSE to stay. The way you treat you customers is beyond a disgrace. For anyone reading this, please think twice about booking a room here. And to top it off, their direct email does not work (from the mecure website itself) leaving me having to dispute the charge with my bank.

Great looking place from the outside, our room however was in very poor condition. Musty smell throughout, extremely out dated facilities, vanity basin blocked, old shower taps dripping 24/7, shower over an old 70’s bath tub, mould around tiling, etc. Certainly not worth the $$$ we paid. Definitely not a 4 star as listed. I’de rate it as a 2 star room. I couldn’t recommend staying here. Staff were well dressed and polite.

We chose this location as it is close to Sovereign Hill. I feel in love with Mecure pretty much straight away. The buildings are so ‘oldie worldly’ which is what we wanted out of our trip. All very modern inside of course. Our room was lovely and the movie choices terrific and free. The garden and fountain so beautiful and gave a relaxing atmosphere. The fire places near reception and cafe are fabulous. We loved the restaurant particularly at night. The staff were all sensational. A special mention to Kameka, and two Indian ladies with first initials of V and P. Sorry, I had trouble pronouncing. Compliments to the chef too please. My grilled chicken was Delicious! Thank you to the lady who serviced our room. When we are down that was again, we will stay but maybe for a few extra night. Thanks so much.

If your expecting a plush room for the $650 a night stay over a weekend then you will be extremely disappointed. Accessibility to shower over the bath with taps at bath level was an Public Safety Risk. Mattress although king-size was like concrete and lumpy, room needs a makeover and new mattress as room was also dark and furniture outdated.
